Privacy Notice

This notice explains how The Royal We, LLC, operating as Hunter Lee Canning on huntercanning.com, collects and uses your information. We do not sell or share your information with advertisers. We use Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate site traffic, and we collect any email or message you choose to send us through the contact form or by email.

1. What information do we collect?

When you submit the email-capture form on the writing page, we collect your email address and the timestamp of submission. When you email us about a booking, speaking engagement, photography retainer, or other professional inquiry, we receive whatever you choose to send (typically your name, company, event details, and follow-up correspondence). When a booking moves into a paid engagement, we also process the contracting and payment information needed to invoice and deliver the service. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived server access logs (IP, requested URL, timestamp, user-agent) for security and debugging. We do not collect biometric data or other sensitive personal information.

2. How do we use your information?

Email addresses captured on the writing page are used solely to notify you when Hunter publishes a new essay or anecdote. Inquiry correspondence is used to evaluate, scope, contract, deliver, and invoice professional services. Server logs are used to detect abuse and diagnose outages, then rotated and discarded.

3. What legal bases do we rely on?

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or other GDPR jurisdictions, our legal basis for processing your email is your consent (you typed it into a form). You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing or by emailing [email protected]. For server logs, our legal basis is legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and online.

4. When and with whom do we share your information?

We share information only with the service providers required to operate the site, deliver email, and measure aggregate traffic: Cloudflare (CDN, DNS, edge security), DigitalOcean (server hosting), Listmonk on our own infrastructure (subscriber list), Amazon Web Services SES (outbound email delivery), and Google Analytics 4 (aggregate traffic measurement). These providers act as processors under our instructions. We have not disclosed, sold, rented, or shared personal information to any third party for advertising or marketing purposes in the past twelve months.

5. Do we use cookies and tracking technologies?

We run Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate site traffic. GA4 sets first-party cookies (typically _ga and _ga_*) and may collect IP-derived geolocation, device type, browser, referrer, and pages visited. We have IP anonymization on by default and we do not run advertising or remarketing trackers. You can opt out of GA at any time using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site as a security and performance layer, may also set a short-lived cookie named __cf_bm for bot management; that cookie is strictly necessary for site function and is not used to track or profile you.

6. Is your information transferred internationally?

Our infrastructure lives in the United States. If you are accessing the site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on appropriate safeguards, including the standard contractual clauses offered by Cloudflare, DigitalOcean, and AWS, for cross-border transfers.

7. How long do we keep your information?

Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or until the list is decommissioned. Server logs roll on size and the most recent files are kept for roughly thirty days; older logs are deleted automatically. Email correspondence is retained as long as it remains relevant to the conversation.

8. How do we keep your information safe?

We use HTTPS across the site, restrict administrative access to multi-factor authenticated accounts, and keep our software stack patched. No security program is perfect; if a breach affecting your data occurs we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. Do we collect information from minors?

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email [email protected] and we will delete the record.

10. What are your privacy rights?

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export the information we hold about you, and you can object to or restrict our use of it. You can withdraw consent for the email list at any time. Email [email protected] to make any of these requests; we will respond within thirty days.

11. Controls for Do-Not-Track features

We do not respond to Do-Not-Track signals because we do not track you in the first place.

12. Do United States residents have specific privacy rights?

Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with consumer privacy statutes have the rights to know, access, correct, and delete the personal information we hold about them, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information. To exercise any right, email [email protected]. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.

13. Do other regions have specific privacy rights?

Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa have rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPEDA, the Australian Privacy Act, the New Zealand Privacy Act, and POPIA respectively. These rights generally include the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any right, email [email protected].

14. Do we update this notice?

Yes. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we make material changes. If a change materially affects how we use existing data, we will notify subscribers by email.

15. How can you contact us about this notice?

Email [email protected]. Postal mail can be sent to The Royal We, LLC, 418 Broadway STE N, Albany, NY 12207, United States.

16. How can you review, update, or delete the data we hold?

Email [email protected] from the address you want to review or remove, and we will action your request within thirty days. Unsubscribe links in any email we send to you also remove your address from the list immediately.
